Well the beginning of the end has started. The Water of Mars aired just over an hour ago. Out of all the specials this has to be the best. It was very wonderful to see the Doctor become the Master in many ways and when he realised that had gone too far. Lindsey Duncan was absolutley superb and the water creature (whatever it was!) was very scary. It wasnt as scary as I was expecting but was definetly the best of the specials. ROLL ON CHRISTMAS!!!
Finally the first story of the Lost Season has been released. The Nightmare Fair sees the return of the Celestial Toymaker. Technically its his second on Big Finish but chronologically speaking its his first. The Magic Mousetrap happens during the seventh Doctor's time. It was announced on the Big Finish website that from August 2010 there will be a second series which features stories from the proposed 1990 series featuring the seventh Doctor (possibly ace). Apparently they are also abandonned stories from William Hartnell and Patrick Troughton eras sometime in late 2010 maybe early 2011.
As well as The Nightmare Fair coming I also have The Eternal Summer and Ringpullworld so over the next few days I will be reviewing them and posting them on my website.
Until Next Time

No More Doctor Who on DVD till January 4th!!!
Finally the stress of the last few weeks have gone. This week we had our stocktake with some very important people coming on the second day. Well it wasnt their arrival that I found stressful it was everyone coming from head office (well almost!) to discuss aspects of the company. The whole thing passed off without a hitch and the important people were very nice and took time to speak to us all.
Now as I write this I am finally on a day off having worked seven days consecutivley. Over the next three weeks I will be going to the Walsall store. Next week is for three days with two of those being for their stocktake and the third is to allow the manager to have a day off. Then over the next two weeks it is for two days. I then have to spend a day at the Birmingham Uni so the manager of that store can go to an area meeting.
After enjoying the Dalek War boxset I was horrified with the news that their wont be anymore DVD releases of classic stories until January 4th. Normally there would be a release in November of the new series but obviously there isnt anything to release. We have the Peladon box set out on January 4th, then The Masque of Mandragora (Feb 8th), Time and the Rani (Mar 1) and then there is the Myths and Legends Boxset which will include such visual classics as The Time Monster (not bad), Underworld and The Horns of Nimon. I suppose they have to release them in a boxset otherwise no bugger would buy them (well anyone who isnt a collecter).
I dont know if the new series of the Sarah Jane Adventures is any good. I wont be watching them until the Doctor turns up. I watched the first season but not really fussed with it. Episode One of Prisoner of the Judoon got 0.6 million viewers whilst Episode Two got 0.7m.
Well thats all for my blog this time. I am listening to Castle of Fear by Big Finish and starting my UNIT season where I watch every UNIT story from The Invasion to The Sontaran Stratagem.
Bye

Barry Letts (1925-2009)
Well I have been on holiday this week and I spent Monday watching the Dalek War boxset which features Frontier in Space and Planet of the Daleks. These are two fine stories and should be watched.
It was reported that Barry Letts died yesterday, he was 84. He was a brilliant producer, overseeing the start of the finest period in Doctor Who history. I first thought that something wasnt right when I saw him on a documentary on a recent DVD and he looked ill. It was such a shock. For me his first season as producer was the best season in Doctor Who history.
His involvement in Doctor Who was great. After leaving the show as producer in 1974, he oversaw part of the 1978 season while producer Graham Williams recovered from a broken leg. He then became Executive Producer for John Nathan Turner's first season as producer. He also directed the 1975 adventure The Android Invasion.
A lot of people look at Verity Lambert and praise her involvement which is absolutley right and people seem divided about JNT's contribution to the show which is questionable. But for me Barry Letts' tenure on the show as well as Terrance Dicks' work as Script Editor. Gave the show the much needed boost which helped it carry on to what we see now. No one should underestimate Letts' contribution.
Thats all for now.

The Keys of Marinus
Well since my last blog I have been working at Northfield. Work has been a bit of a mess recently because I just didnt feel like it. My manager was off with swine flu and so was another member of staff and I was trying to cope with a busy store, little stock and being understaffed. In the last couple of days I dont have this depressed feeling which is irritating because it means that my work standards are slipping which is causing concern with my manager. I am on holiday in a few weeks so hopefully when I return I will be back to where I should be.
I do feel like this from time to time but not since I have been at Northfield (since January 2008). Normally when they happened at Merry Hill I knew it was because I was fed up with where I was working and wanted to leave. At Northfield I enjoy working there, I love working with my manager and everyone at the store. I know that its not the desire to leave so this depressed feeling is just annoying.
Today I went to Erdington to help out. I was going to do a 24 hrs in Erdington title but thought against it. Things were going great there until I went to cash up and found that the banking figure I had was more than was expected and then when I tried to adjust the figure I pressed the wrong button and entered less than there was. Rushing to get out as quickly as possible I messed up. Yet again I go to another store and make a cock up. I will have to ring the deputy manager at the store (manager is on holiday) and try to explain what the hell I did. I wrote a confusing message to Head Office and hopefully when I speak to the deputy she will understand and be able to relay what I meant.
One of these days I would like to go to another store where something doesnt go wrong. When I was at Walsall for 5 days, I made a mistake with a customer order that took a long time to sort out. I am pissed off at myself and think that I should give up going to other stores until this depressed feeling goes away.
The Keys of Marinus was out on DVD this week. Its a six part story that aired between April and May 1964. It sees The Doctor, Ian, Barbara and Susan find the microkeys for the Conscience of Marinus. Its a nice story, it was placed in 160th place in the recent DWM 200 story poll. I am currently going through the story before listening to the commentary.
Speaking of the DWM poll I have to say that I largely agree with the Top 10 stories. I dont think that The Empty Child/Doctor Dances should have been in the Top 10, neither should Bad Wolf/Parting of the Ways. This is what happens when you let new fans of the show vote because The Ark in Space, Inferno, The Invasion, The Tomb of the Cybermen or even the Brains of Morbius get kicked in the lower parts of the Top 40 whereas weaker stories like The Girl in the Fireplace, Dalek and Bad Wolf make it up their. Madness.
Well thats it for another blog. Hopefully things will get better. The Dalek War boxset is out on October 5th and the next two Sixth Doctor stories come out from Big Finish and the third Companion Chronicle comes out as well. Mega review coming up!!

Another 48 hrs in Walsall
Well I spent another two days in Walsall. The new deputy was there and he seems nice and will do well there. The first day that I was there was really nice cause there was a lot to do. There was the nerve wracking moment where my Area Manager was also there. The second day wasnt as good as things had more or less been done and I was bored towards the end of the day.
Its been announced that Richard Curtis will be writing an episode of Doctor Who in 2010. I dont know what to make of this piece of news. Part of me thinks that he'll turn it into a comedy but then part of me thinks he'll try and make a really good sci-fi story. Anyway only time will tell but here's hoping.
It was really sad to hear the news about Ray Barrett. Barrett who played Bennett & Koquillion in the 1965 story The Rescue died this past Tuesday due to a brain haemorrhage.
Voting begins for the 2010 National Television Awards which are being held in January at the 02 Arena. Doctor Who and Torchwood are both nominated as Best Drama while David Tennant, John Barrowman and Eve Myles are all nominated for Best Drama Performance.
Over the last three weeks, BBC3 has been airing Doctor Who's Greatest Moments. The first episode was about the Doctor and was watched by 400,000 people. The second episode focused on companions and was watched by 290,000. The final episode was the Enemies and was watched by 340,000.

120 Hrs in Walsall
Well since my last blog I have been back at the Walsall store. Except this time I was there for five days including Bank Holiday Monday. To be honest by the fifth day I was sick and tired of the place. Not the staff but the scenario that I was in, not having anyone that I could rely on was a bit draining after five days.
After a two day break I went back to the Northfield store where I was relieved to be but I soon discovered that I had been 'asked' by my area manager to cover the store for two days next week because the references of the new deputy manager hadnt come through yet. I will also be at the Erdington store which I quite like the idea of.
I finally got the Twin Dilemma on DVD. It was quite sad to know that there wont be anymore Colin Baker DVD's coming out. Having pointed that out it was always going to be the Sixth Doctor's run that was done first. McCoy's will probably be next.
Well thats all for this one.

48 Hrs in Walsall
Well I have just spent the past two days in Walsall. I have had to cover as they have no Deputy Manager (yet!) and the Manager needs a day off. Its a nice store as its on the high street and has windows in the office. This is where I admire Walsall. At Northfield we dont have windows apart from the shop window. The last two days its been boiling in the office but thankfully I was able to open the window and allow some gusty wind into the office. Bliss!.
I am off on Friday to wait to sit in the chair of doom. By that I mean the dentist, 2pm is when I have to hear the Dentist say "You need to floss your teeth!" I'll nod and agree and that'll be that before I have to hand over £15 for effectivley 2 minutes for a check-up. I am back in Walsall next Friday where I will be there for 5 days straight including Bank Holiday Monday which is effectivley what we call Manic Monday. Its the last Monday before the kids go back to School. I am really not looking forward to it as the last two days in Walsall have been busy and very little filling up was done and that makes me feel bad cause I like to feel that I have done something. Hopefully this time it'll be better and I will be able to get more done. Small shop with very little room makes it a warm place to spend 8 hours.
